Transportation Assistance

If you are a CalWORKs recipient and an active Welfare-to-Work (WTW) participant that is in school, working or in a training program, you may be eligible for transportation assistance. The CalWORKs WTW program can pay for bus passes, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) fare and other forms of public transportation. In some cases, the CalWORKs WTW program may also pay mileage if you use a car to get to your WTW approved activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I eligible after I stopped receiving CalWORKs?

No. Transportation assistance is not available to adult individuals who are no longer receiving CalWORKs cash aid for themselves.

What if I have a car?

If your round trip to work, school or any approved WTW activity takes more than two hours by public transportation, then you may be eligible to receive a set amount for each mile that you drive.

Can I get bus fare for my children?

Yes. If your children need bus fare to get to and from their childcare or school, they may also qualify for transportation assistance.
